What is biblical counseling?


The Counseling Ministry at St. John Missionary Baptist church offers individual, couple, and family counseling to members and non-members alike. We believe you can find hope. We can help you experience true and lasting transformation by addressing issues through a Christ-centered perspective. The model is based on the practical application of Biblical truth used to guide individuals into authentic Christian living and emphasizes a desperate dependency on Jesus Christ. We encourage you to check out our counseling services, as well as the many different training opportunities we offer in biblical counseling. Classes, special events, and training modules are being scheduled regularly at SJMBC

God has called the church to minister to others for His glory. The St John Biblical Counseling Center exists with that calling in mind, and seeks to equip believers in effectively ministering God’s Word to hurting people. As first our own lives in Christ are enriched and strengthened by the sufficient and authoritative Word of God through the empowering of the Holy Spirit, we also grow in effective ministry to others.

We understand that there are times in life where you just need a helping hand. In fact, many people are doing very well in some parts of their life while struggling in others. Now might be the time when you need someone to come alongside and encourage you from the Bible. The mission of St. John's biblical counseling ministry is to equip you to deal with the issues of life by the transforming power of Jesus Christ for the glory of God. Our counseling is grounded in the Word of God (2 Tim 3:16-17) and aimed at the building up of the saints (Col 1:28; Rom 15:14).

The St John Biblical Counseling Center (SJBCC) is affiliated with the International Association of Biblical Counselors (IABC), and offers training for those interested in certification as biblical counselors.

The International Association of Biblical Counselors consists of men and women committed to serious reliance on Scripture as sufficient and authoritative, and devoted to helping God’s people apply His truth to their personal lives in practical ways.

IABC Biblical Counselor Certification Process The biblical counselor certification process of the International Association of Biblical Counselors (IABC) is explained more fully on the website IABC.NET. The material you receive at the SJBCC Training Weekends integrates preparation to complete the Evaluation portion of IABC training (for both Theology and Counseling Evaluations).
